Removing Browser Highlighter

I already tweeted about this problem, referring to the post by Oliver Bodnar, but as the Browser Highlighter also adds itself back “stealthily” during simple updates of Skype, I though I might as well post a reminder here as well.

  1. Close Firefox;
  2. Go to Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/Extensions;
  3. Delete the browser highlighter folder;
  4. Restart Firefox.

That’s it,

PS: as previously highlighted by Oly, on his Manifesto, there might be some further “junk”  left on your machine (probably in the registry). Feel free to add a comment below if you have suggestions in this regard;

PS2: Oliver Bodnar also publishes the One Armed SEO website, and can be followed on Twitter

Good news: the most recent versions of the Browser Highlighter can be uninstalled via Windows \ Control Panel \ Programs & Features.

  2. I tried that easy 1-4 steps and the skype highlighter is still there. life size on my firefox browser. I loaded skype about a week ago. I do not want to kill my computer to get it out but I feel like it.
    Is there an alternative for skype ?
