Twitter astuces chez Webusage.net (Twitter tricks)

(English speaking readers may go directly to the end of this post).

And now for my English reading friends ;)

My friend Emmanuel Gadenne published some interesting explanations on Twitter’s “followings / followers” concept in his recent post “Twitter astuces !”.

Emmanuel’s blog is written in french, so I recommend to you “How Twitter Works“, on the “HowStuffWorks” blog, for general info about what Twitter is all about.

I made a comment on the Webusage.net blog mentioning two tools I find particularly useful to manage your “followings / followers” list:

Social Too sends a daily email with information on your new followers / unfollowers. This site also provides you with the option to automatically follow your new followers (with a welcome message if you wish), or to automatically unfollow your “unfollowers” (with some parameters you can fine tune to your taste) etc. You can also follow Social Too on Twitter.

Your Twitter Karma – thanks to Dossy Shiobara – allows you to analyse all your followings / followers on a few pages.

Basically, it’s a Flash application that fetches your friends and followers from Twitter when you click the “Whack!” button, then displays them for you, letting you quickly paginate through them. By default, the list contains all your friends and followers and is sorted by last update, showing those who most recently updated first. You can sort the list alphabetically either ascending or descending by Twitter ID. You can filter the list in several ways: only friends or only followers, all friends or all followers, and mutual friends.

With this little application, you can see for instance which of your Twitter friends have remained inactive for a long time, and try to “wake them up”. You can also use these pages to decide to follow some of your own followers, or vice versa, to stop following some of those who do not follow you. In short, it will help you maintain a reasonably balanced followings / follower ratio, thus increasing your Twitter Karma (rest assured, there is no real Karma point system here, contrary to Plurk), leading you closer to Twitter Nirvana ;)

  1. Thanks PPMartin.

For my English reading friends, I propose:
    MyCleenr: for cleaning inactive Twitter friends;
FriendOrFollow: for listing followed, mutual friends and fans.

  3. Too bad MyCleenr is currently limited to lists of less than 700 followers…

    QUOTE

We are having some issues with our scalability, and people who are following too many people (we fixed a limit at 700) can’t access MyCleenr :(

We are very very very sorry about this issue, and we’re working hard on a better solution with pagination. We also have a day job, but we promise we’ll work on it as soon as we have some free time! If you want to know when this issue will be fixed, don’t hesitate to follow us on Twitter: @MyCleenr
